Two years ago, Alain, the geographer and creator of Globe Sauter & Cie, joined a research programme bringing together a multidisciplinary team of geographers and artists. Based on the observation that virtual globes are being used exponentially, the research focuses particularly on the ‘blank maps’, i.e. areas where there is no data but where the virtual globes are not ‘empty’.
This is a long-term project supported by the CNRS, which will see exhibitions in French Guiana this year, in Canada next year, and which will finish in Bordeaux at the Musée d’Aquitaine in 2026.
